Do Ahead or Delegate: Cook the rice, slice the steak, drained tofu, or mushrooms and refrigerate (if time allows, put the steak in the freezer for 5 – 10 minutes before slicing it to make it easier to cut), cut the broccoli, slice the carrots and the scallions, make the teriyaki sauce if preparing your own.
Scramble Flavor Booster: Add up to 1 tsp. chili garlic sauce or ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes with the teriyaki sauce.
Tip: To make your own teriyaki sauce, combine 1 1/2 Tbsp. soy sauce or tamari, 1 1/2 Tbsp. rice vinegar or rice wine vinegar, 1 1/2 Tbsp. rice wine, 1 1/2 tsp. brown sugar, and 1/4 tsp. each of ground ginger and garlic powder.
